Sure, arm wrestling
is not just a "strength sport." Since you may never lock
up with the best of the best; however, it is only natural to wonder
how your strength compares to that of the champs. Below are listed
the strength levels of three of the greatest arm wrestlers in the
world (all of which are or have been World Champion Arm Wrestlers):
John Brzenk, Dave Patton, and our newest edition, Steve Phipps.
Though all of them credit their success to time spent on the arm
wrestling table and not in the gym, they have been kind enough to
either post their strength levels on the internet or email me with
their numbers. Enter your information below to see how you compare
to these three greats in four lifts:
One-Arm Forearm Dumbbell
Curl
Dumbbell Hammer Curl
Two-Arm Barbell Wrist
Curls (Full Reps)
Two-Arm Barbell Power
Wrist Curl
NOTE: All three
of these wrestlers' maxes are given as a certain amount of weight
for a certain number of reps. The reps are extremely high on some
of the lifts, making it tough to translate into a single-rep max.
We have done our best to create a regression that will generate
a general approximation of each wrestler's max, but these are only
estimates. If you decide to test your max relative to the greats,
we strongly recommend that you put in a weight that you can perform
for no more than 20 reps, as this will result in the most accurate
approximation of your strength level.
Please note that the calculators below work ONLY in Internet Explorer. If you are using Firefox or any other browser, the calculators will not function.

Arm Wrestling Technique, and our video, Secrets of Pro Armwrestling.
ONE-ARM
FOREARM DUMBBELL CURLS
Both wrestlers
go from full extension to full contraction on this exercise.
Please bear in mind that John Brzenk's true max could be significantly
higher than what is listed here, as this represents his "typical
workout" instead of his absolute limit. Please also note that
Dave Patton's true max may be significantly different than what
is listed here. Although the scientifically-developed strength regression
that was used for these estimates has an adjusted R-squared of 0.96375
(meaning it appears to be very good) and a very small standard error,
"calculated" maxes at this level may deviate significantly
from true maxes because other factors (mental toughness, etc) also
come into play.

TWO-ARM
BARBELL WRIST CURLS (Full Reps)
The two-arm barbell
wrist curl is performed just like dumbbell wrist curls, but a barbell
is used instead. The weights and reps listed for this exercise were performed
from full extension to full contraction (all the way up and all the way
down for each rep). Check out our Exercises
page for more detail on how to perform this exercise.

TWO-ARM BARBELL
POWER WRIST CURLS
The two-arm barbell
power wrist curl is performed just like a regular barbell wrist curl,
except you perform only the top half of the exercise. In other words,
you go from a straight wrist to full contraction. Check out our Exercises
section to see pictures of Steve Phipps performing this exercise with
360 pounds!

SHOULD WE
COMPARE OTHERS TO YOU???
The information above
was all we could find on the internet that was actually provided by the
wrestlers themselves. We would like to expand this page of the site by
including more top-caliber arm wrestlers. If you think that you or someone
you know should be added to these comparisons, please contact us and let
us know what your strength levels are as well as what arm wrestling titles
and championships you have won and you may be added to our comparisons!
We realize that you
may have more information on various other arm wrestlers, so if you find
more info on the internet that we could include here please contact us
with the name of the wrestler and the link where you found the information.
Thanks!
